What safety measures should be taken when using a trampoline?

When using a trampoline, it's important to prioritise safety measures to prevent accidents or injuries. Here are the precautions to take note:

  • Firstly, always ensure that the trampoline is set up on a flat and level surface, away from trees or other hazards.
  • Before each use, inspect the trampoline for any damage such as tears in the mat or springs that may need replacing.
  • It's also crucial to have adequate padding covering the frame and springs to minimize the risk of injuries from impact.
  • While jumping, users should avoid attempting flips or somersaults without proper training and supervision.
  • Additionally, only allow one person at a time on the trampoline to avoid collisions and potential accidents.
  • Lastly, adult supervision is vital when children are using a trampoline to ensure they are following safety guidelines and using it responsibly.

By following these safety measures, you can enjoy bouncing on a trampoline while minimizing the risks involved. To find out more, check out our Trampoline Safety Rules blog.

What is the difference between spring and springless trampolines?

Regular trampolines often use coil springs to make the mat bounce, and it's important for a trampoline to have thick padding over the springs to keep everyone safe. These are the go-to trampolines for most Aussie families. On the flip side, springless trampolines use elastic straps or rods instead of regular springs, which makes the bounce softer and easier on the knees.

What maintenance is required for a trampoline?

Taking care of your trampoline is an important task to keep its longevity, safety, and optimal performance. Here are some maintenance practices to keep in mind:

Regular Cleaning: Regularly clean the trampoline surface, frame, and safety pads to remove dirt, debris, and any potential hazards. Use a mild soap and water solution, avoiding harsh chemicals that could damage the materials.

Check for Wear and Tear: Inspect the trampoline's components regularly for signs of wear and tear. Look for any tears, holes, or damage in the jumping mat, enclosure net and safety pads. Replace damaged parts promptly to avoid safety risks.

Tighten Bolts and Nuts: Periodically check all bolts, nuts and other connections to ensure they are properly tightened. Loose hardware can lead to instability and accidents.

Protect from the Elements: If possible, store the trampoline indoors during extreme weather conditions like storms, heavy rain or snow. If not feasible, consider using weather-resistant covers to protect it from harsh elements.

Address Rust: If your trampoline's frame shows signs of rust, remove the rust using appropriate tools and apply rust-resistant paint to prevent further corrosion.

Check Springs: Inspect the springs regularly for signs of damage or stretching. Replace any worn-out or damaged springs to maintain the trampoline's bounce and safety.

Secure Enclosure: Ensure the enclosure net is securely attached to the frame and does not have any holes or gaps that could pose a safety risk.

Limit Weight Capacity: Adhere to the trampoline's weight capacity guidelines to prevent overloading and excessive stress on the frame and springs.

Supervision and Rules: Establish rules for trampoline usage, especially for children, and ensure proper supervision while it is in use to avoid accidents.

Professional Inspection: Consider having a professional inspect the trampoline annually to identify any potential issues and address them before they become significant problems.

If you stick to these maintenance tips, you can keep your trampoline in great shape, prolong its lifespan and guarantee a safe and fun bouncing experience for everyone who hops on it.
